Farmer groups work together during the main harvest in the village Sandik, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Lombok NTB is also a center for rice growing areas in Indonesia, famous for Gogorancah system. Gogorancah an alternative technique of rainfed rice cultivation. Techniques guaranteeing gogorancah more harvest than transplanting. So far the performance and yield of rice gogorancah no different with the appearance and irrigated rice yields. Therefore gogorancah rice has relatively intensively cultivated. Rainfed rice in Sindh reached the area of 37,000 ha, accounting for about 20% of the total rice production.
Two decades ago, Indonesia had the joy of self-sufficiency in rice, but the golden years is slowly fading. Even then, the Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO gave a special award to the government on this outstanding achievement. Today, Indonesia as an agricultural country, has to import food from other countries.However, many years afterward rice self-sufficiency seems difficult feat repeated, sometimes Indonesia to import rice from neighboring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam also India. Over the last few years, the problem of food security becomes an important issue in Indonesia.
